“Lloyd Jones’s novella has the epic scope of the novels of Umberto Eco… the quirkiness and attention to details of John Irving.” – New Welsh Review

“Jones captures a magic largely absent from the modern world.” – Wales Arts Review

“Lloyd Jones’ retelling follows the original closely and is lively, eventful and very contemporary in the issues it examines.” – The Bay Magazine

Small-minded academic Dr Llwyd McNamara has a grant to research Wales’ biggest hero, rugby star Dylan Manawydan Jones – Big M. But as the doctor plays with USB sticks in his office, the gods have other plans…

Llwyd discovers a link between Big M and his own life, in the shape of the luxurious but strange Hotel Corvo on the west Wales coast. But from here things only get stranger. Are claims to a link between Big M and the Celtic myths of the past just a load of academic waffle… and what is the significance of the mouse tattoo?

For this ninth addition to Seren’s New Stories from the Mabinogion series, prizewinning author Lloyd Jones tackles this retelling of the Third Branch of the Mabinogion: ‘Manawyddan son of Llyr’, with his usual ingenuity, imaginative intelligence and zest for language to create a skilful and hugely enjoyable tale.
