Friday Poem – ‘Time Lapse at Porthmeor’ by Lorcán Black

Rock pools lit by the sun

This week’s Friday Poem is ‘Time Lapse at Porthmeor’ by Lorcán Black from his Poetry Book Society recommended collection Strange Husbandry.

Time Lapse at Porthmeor
We haven’t yet developed bad habits.
The wind is lapping the surf like a dog.
The five of us are watching the sun set over the sea.
In the soft, dark cloak of night we will uncork the wine.
Your huge hands are tender, warm on my shoulders.
Around us, the others take turns rolling dice.
Beyond the open window, the sea will be salting the rockpools into the
deep dawn hours.
I don’t mind telling you, you’re developing a habit of holding my hand
while you sleep.
Deep, dark crevices, my hands keep reaching.
We climb & climb, boots slipping, wet stone.
Sheer rock face – I sweep the moss off wet stone.
Boots slipping, I go & go –
You reaching back & back.
