Anne Lauppe-Dunbar on BBC Radio Wales

Anne Lauppe-Dunbar, author of Dark Mermaids, joined Jamie Owen on BBC Radio Wales to discuss her debut novel and its subject matter– doping in sport. Anne’s interview aired on Sunday 15th November, but you can still listen to the radio show in full, here.
Dark Mermaids is a shocking story of the horrors of a political system that doped its youngsters to sporting superhero status, and then left them to fend for themselves. Shortlisted for the Impress and Cinnamon First Novel Prize, this East German noir thriller is set in 1990, a year after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In light of the recent Russian doping scandal, Anne’s research into the use of performance enhancing drugs in the former GDR is especially relevant. Have a listen as she tells Jamie what inspired her to write this dark, absorbing tale.
