Online with the Poetry School

Katrina Naomi | Poetry of the Menopause: Pause & Refresh

In this online course with the Poetry School, Katrina Naomi will lead a workshop on poetry of the menopause where participants will read and write poems exploring how bodies change – the losses and the gains.

You’ll write from direct experience and from the experience of others close to you; from the heart, from the guts; in response to other poets and writers. You’ll subvert medical and other texts, playing with cut-ups and erasure techniques. You’ll write about how you really feel, not how you’re supposed to feel. Some will delight in throwing off the risks of pregnancy, finding newfound desires and possibilities; others will feel invisible, crazy, that life is over.

This is an opportunity to dive deep into a subject that is still often seen as taboo – despite being a major life event for half the population – and to approach the topic with positivity, generosity, and creative freedom in a safe and supportive environment. So, join Katrina and the Poetry School and write to reframe the conversation and produce exciting new poetic works inspired by this too-often unsung topic.

Cost £84.00. One-day session on 26 February 2022, from 10.30am-4.30pm GMT
