Daryl Leeworthy | Elaine Morgan - Welsh Lives on Screen
‘Elaine Morgan: Welsh Lives On Screen’ - Dr Daryl Leeworthy in conversation with Jon Gower
2021 marks forty years since the first broadcast of Elaine Morgan’s masterpiece of long-form televisual storytelling, 'The Life and Times of David Lloyd George.' Spread over nine episodes, starring Merthyr Tydfil-born Philip Madoc, and set to a soundtrack by the Italian master composer, Ennio Morricone, the serial brought history to new audiences. By then, Elaine Morgan had been writing for television for more than 25 years. She was an acknowledged master of the art.
This conversation marks Elaine Morgan’s recent centenary and places her work alongside those of her fellow Welsh screenwriters, Gwyn Thomas and Alun Richards, as symbolic of the culture and aspiration of the South Wales Valleys in the twentieth century.
