Virtual First Thursday November | Cath Drake, Angela Grahame and Eric Ngalle Charles

Virtual First Thursday returns and this month its a tale of countries as we are joined by three authors whose works all have a deep connection with place.

Australian poet Cath Drake's debut collection The Shaking City came out from Seren in April 2020 and her poem 'Our Front Garden' was highly commended in the 2020 Forward Prizes. The title is a metaphor for the swiftly changing precarity of modern life within the looming climate and ecological emergency and the unease of a narrator who is far from home.

Set in Wales, Northern Ireland and Italy, the characters in the twenty-six stories in Angela Graham's debut A City Burning face, in the flames of personal tragedy, moments of potential transformation. On the threshold of their futures each must make a choice: how to live in this new ‘now’.

Originally from Cameroon, Eric Ngalle Charles is a poet, actor and playwright based in Wales. He published a collection of poems about Cameroon with Mike Jenkins and Ifor ap Glyn called The 3 Molas, and a moving memoir I, Eric Ngalle (Parthian). Seren are due to publish his new poetry collection in 2022.

Tickets: £2 plus admin fee, available from eventbrite.co.uk. The Zoom link will be included in your confirmation email.

The readings will be followed by our usual open mic. Please email sarahjohnson@serenbooks.com to sign up.
