Chapter Arts Centre,
First Thursday | Jayne Joso, Katie Munnik & Zoe Brigley
Join us at Chapter Arts centre on Thursday 4th July to celebrate some wonderful works of fiction by Jayne Joso and Katie Munnik, as well as poems by the excellent Zoe Brigley. The event will host readings from all three writers and will be followed by an open mic. Entry £3.
Jayne Joso's most recent novel From Seven to the Sea explores the emotions of childhood and an almost limitless capacity for imagination, invention, and fearlessness as it charts the survival of seven-year-old Esther as she negotiates her mother and stepfather’s dysfunction, and a school environment that exposes her to further prejudice and injustice.
The powerful story of three women and the secrets and bonds that have defined them, The Heart Beats in Secret by Katie Munnik explores the wilderness of the heart, the secrets concealed with every beat and the many ways it is possible to be a mother taking us across time from the east coast of Scotland, to Montreal and back again.
Zoe Brigley Thompson is the author of three books of poetry published by Bloodaxe: Hand & Skull (2019), Conquest (2012), and The Secret (2007), all three of which are Poetry Book Society Recommendations. She won an Eric Gregory Award to the best British poets under 30, and was listed for the Dylan Thomas Prize for the best international writers under 35. A native of Wales, she now lives in Ohio, where she works as an Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University. She is a reader and committee member for Wales' leading poetry journal Poetry Wales.
