Join the Seren Board

26 May 2022 - 10:51am

We’re currently looking for three new non-executive directors to join the Seren board and support our new strategic direction over the coming three years. These roles will support actively shaping the future of the publisher at a time of great global and sectoral change. Of particular focus is the need to better represent the diversity of Welsh identities and experiences through the medium of English, and to that extent we want to expand the demographic breadth of our current Board.

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for strong advocates who are committed to and passionate about our vision, mission and values and will work with fellow Directors and staff to ensure high standards of governance, transparency, accountability, representation and accessibility.

Skillsets we’re keen to bolster within the current Board include Finance, Legal, HR and Innovation. However, we are keen to support your professional development through the position, so you do not need to have many years of experience in working in these specialisms. Nor do you need to have worked in or experience of the publishing sector or wider arts, creative and cultural industries. You may be working in book-keeping for an engineering firm, or be a trainee solicitor. What is important is that you love reading, you care about broadening the diversity and impact of Wales’ literary culture, want to expand our current readership, and have the potential to grow with us on this journey.

To fully represent the breadth of identities and experiences of people living in Wales today through our publications and readership, we are particularly looking for individuals with lived experience of racism and/or ableism and/or classism and who are aged 35 years or under. We will support you to get the most of the appointment and are mindful of the responsibility we have in benefiting from your support.

The deadline for applications is 4th July 2022, with interviews taking place shortly after. The new Directors will join the Board in September 2022.

Full details of the roles and information about how to apply are available here drive.google.com/directors-recruitment. We are dedicated to meeting access requirements – please contact us to let us know what you need.

This position is a voluntary role, however Seren believes that people should not be prevented from becoming a Director due to financial constraints. If you are unsure whether you would be able to commit the time required to act as a Director for financial reasons, please get in touch to discuss how we can support you.
