Caroline Smith’s The Immigration Handbook shortlisted for Ted Hughes Award

8 March 2017 - 04:42pm

The Immigration Handbook, Caroline Smith’s moving poetry collection inspired by stories heard every day in her role as Immigration Officer, has been shortlisted for the 2016 Ted Hughes Award.

A few words from Caroline: “I've always believed that poetry and art lie not on the periphery of life as commentator, but at its centre as a driving force. That's why I'm thrilled that a collection like The Immigration Handbook has been shortlisted for the 2016 Ted Hughes Award for new work in poetry.”

From the Ted Hughes Award judges: “An important and unsentimental collection which humanises and individualises refugees without inappropriate occupation of another voice.
