Deryn Rees-Jones is among the speakers at this conference which takes place at the close of the first, historic, UK Poet Laureateship held by a woman, the contemporary British poet, Carol Ann Duffy.  It evaluates forty-five years of Duffys' literary work in the light of ten years of her public engagement with the people of the United Kingdom and the world as the country’s literary figurehead. As part of the Cheltenham Poetry Festival acclaimed poet, Jonathan Edwards, will be holding a Masterclass followed by a reading from Jonathan and poets who attend the class. The workshop will begin with a close reading of Simon Armitage’s brilliant poem ‘Not the Furniture Game,’ as a way of exploring how metaphor can be used effectively in character sketches. By working through a couple of different writing exercises and strategies, participants will then work towards writing a poem about someone they love. Tickets: £18/£15.
