This exhibition celebrates the major gift of photographs from David Hurn’s private collection and marks the opening of Amgueddfa Cymru’s first gallery dedicated to photography. Throughout his career as a documentary photographer and member of Magnum Photos, Hurn has been an avid collector of photography. Remarkably, he has amassed his private collection by swapping works with other photographers. Caught by the River presents acclaimed poet Paul Henry, author of six collections for Seren, and Stornoway frontman Brian Briggs for a unique performance of  their collaborative work, The Glass Aisle – a haunting piece which crosses the borders between poem and song lyric.  Other peformers are Erland Cooper, Simon Fisher Turner, Will Burns and MC John Andrews. In this evening talk, David Hurn and Martin Parr will be discussing their shared passion for collecting photography, and how their collections are being used to support and promote the preservation, research and appreciation of photography in the UK.
