Hammad Rind is a Welsh-Pakistani writer, translator and the author of the debut novel Four Dervishes (Seren 2021), a playful social satire with elements of magic realism. Drawing on a long tradition of storytelling the novel skewers issues like religious bigotry, injustice, the denial of women’s rights, and class division. Lavishly inventive, verbally rich, an exotic confection, it is both darkly thematic and humorously playful. Join poets Elizabeth Parker, Robert Walton, Lisa Lopresti and Kaz Michael for a poetry winter warmer at Coffee #1 in Bristol. These four exciting poets will be reading a selection of recent and published poems. There's an open mic, so you can share your own poetry in the welcoming ambience of this gorgeous cafe. Angela Graham will be reading at Ye Olde Murenger House in Newport on 15th February for their 85th Open Mic Spoken Word Extravaganza! Angela will be reading from her poetry collection Sanctuary: There Must Be Somewhere and her short story collection A City Burning which was longlisted for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize. Her reading will be followed by an open mic. Admission £5.00 on the door/£3.00 concessions (students, OAPS, or if you wish to read your own work on the night). Starts 7:30pm. Katrina Naomi will be reading at Belfast’s Crescent Arts Centre with Maureen Boyle, Csilla Toldy and Heather Richardson at an event marking one year from the start of the war in Ukraine. Katrina is an award-winning poet, performer, mentor and judge. Her poetry collections have won an Authors’ Foundation Award and Saboteur Award, and she is a recipient of the Keats-Shelley Prize.
