Katrina Naomi is the host of Penzance Poetry Parlour, an occasional reading series with invited poets. This month Katrina has booked top poets Pascale Petit and Alyson Hallet. There will be an informal Q&A after the readings plus cava and popcorn! Entry is by a minimum £5 donation (if you can afford more, then the poets will be paid more). You are invited to the premiere of a new choral work by Paul Mealor with words by Grahame Davies. 'The Souls of the Righteous' is a Requiem commissioned by the Chapel Royal of Scotland to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice. The American premiere will take place in Carnegie Hall in New York on Armistice Day itself, November 11th.  Grahame  is a poet, novelist, editor and literary critic, who has won numerous prizes, including the Wales Book of the Year Award. Poet Anne-Marie Fyfe presents readings, talk & music on writers and the sea, from great novelists, travel-writers & poets of the past – along with readings from the local writers who’ve taken part in her Edge of the Depths workshops. Carrie Etter will be reading from her fourth collection The Weather in Normal (Seren 2018)  which explores the poet’s loss of her hometown of Normal, Illinois through her parents’ deaths, the sale of the family home, and the effects of climate change. It is a collection at once innovative, emotive, and deeply resonant. The MC for the evening is David Caddy with featured poets Carrie Etter, Sarah Cave and Elisabeth Bletsoe. You are invited to the opening of a new exhibition by Shani Rhys James on Saturday 15 September 2018 at 2pm. The art was produced in New York during a one month residency at Columbia University.  Siani's work for this exhibition was stimulated by the energy of New York and she created the pieces in a totally instinctive way as a response to crowds of people where there was such a mixture of races and the underbelly - extreme rich and poor as in any urban city in this current climate.
