Seren poets Elizabeth Parker and Paul Deaton will be performing at 'Dusk', an event headlined by the fantastic singer-songwriter Rachael Dadd.  Elizabeth's debut collection In Her Shambles  will be published by Seren in April 2018 and she will perform a new poem here entitled 'Dhusarah'. The poem is about dusk, specifically exploring the etymology of the word. Paul's debut collection, A Watchful Astronomy, was published by Seren earlier this year. Rachel and other performers will lead a celebration in words and music of the shortest day of the year outside on the Roundhill as dusk descends...

The Seren pop-up bookshop returns to Chapter for its fourth year. You’ll find us in Chapter’s entrance hall, Monday 18 to Friday 22 December. We’ll bring with us a fantastic selection of books which (as everyone knows) make great Christmas presents. So come and have a browse, take advantage of our free Christmas gift wrapping, and chat with Seren staff about publishing, writing, reading – and your love of books. We look forward to seeing you! Enjoy a festive evening of poetry hosted by Poetry Frome (at the Garden Café) with special guest Robert Walton, who will be reading from his new collection, Sax Burglar Blues. There will be an open mic, Secret Santa with presents for two lucky poets, and seasonal nibbles and mulled wine. Readings start at 7.30pm, but do get to the Garden Café (Stony Street) earlier for a seat and to buy drinks & any snacks. Entry £2 payable at the counter.

The Poetry Society is delighted to join forces with the Poetry Book Society to celebrate the PBS Winter Selections. Come along to the launch of a special edition of the PBS Winter 2017 Bulletin with a stellar performance from five internationally acclaimed poets: PBS Choice Sasha Dugdale, PBS Recommendations Paul Deaton, Tim Dooley, Ahren Warner and PBS Special Commendation Fleur Adcock. December’s First Thursay features guest authors Paul Deaton with his PBS-Recommended debut poetry collection, A Watchful Astronomy, and Tony Curtis with a short performance of voices from his Cinnamon Press short story collection, Some Kind of Immortality. After the guest readings we will have our famous Open Mic, and all are invited to read one poem or page of prose. Entry: £2.50 on the door (redeemable against purchase of any book)

Belfast Girls by Jaki McCarrick will open at Shaking the Tree Theatre, Portland, Oregon, USA, in November.  The play is directed by Gemma Whelan and is presented by one of Portland’s foremost theatre companies, Corrib Theatre. The Portland production marks the fifth international production of this all-female play, which was Windy City Times’ Critic’s pick when it premiered in Chicago in 2015, and marks the West Coast Premiere of the play.
