In the course of a year Julie Brominicks walked around the edge of Wales, having left her job in education for sustainability at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. As an English incomer and a Welsh learner with a long association with the country, she was interested in what Wales meant, and how she did, or didn’t, fit. The result is a fascinating alternative travelogue, which merges topography, history, environmentalism and observation of nature, to produce the ‘long view’ of Wales, discovering the roots of the present in the past, sometimes the distant past.
Yn ystod blwyddyn cerddodd Julie Brominicks o amgylch cyrion Cymru, ar ôl gadael ei swydd ym myd addysg am gynaliadwyedd yng Nghanolfan y Dechnoleg Amgen ym Machynlleth. Fel mewnfudwr Saesneg a dysgwr Cymraeg sydd â chysylltiad hir â’r wlad, roedd ganddi ddiddordeb yn yr hyn oedd Cymru’n ei olygu, a sut oedd hi yn ffitio, neu ddim yn ffitio, i mewn iddi. Y canlyniad yw teithlyfr amgen hynod ddiddorol, sy’n uno topograffi, hanes, amgylcheddaeth ac arsylwi byd natur, i gynhyrchu ‘golwg hir’ o Gymru, gan ddarganfod gwreiddiau materion heddiw yn y gorffennol, weithiau’r gorffennol pell.
