About the authors:
Peter Finch is a poet, writer, performer, walker and literary entrepreneur living in Cardiff. In 2022, Seren published his significant two volume ‘Collected Poems’ which bring together poems from across his 50+ year career. His psychogeographic exploration of the Cardiff border, ’Edging the City’ followed in June and ‘Walking the Valleys’, a book 15 walks around the South Wales Valleys illustrated by photographer John Briggs, followed in October.
Born in Cornwall, son of an Estonian wartime refugee, Philip Gross has lived in Plymouth, Bristol and South Wales, where he was Professor of Creative Writing at Glamorgan University (USW). His 27th book of poetry, ‘The Thirteenth Angel’ (Bloodaxe, 2022), was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize 2022. He is also a keen collaborator and has worked with artists, musicians and photographers. He has published two books with Seren in collaboration with the artist Valerie Coffin Price, ‘A Fold in the River’ (2015), and 'Troeon : Turnings' (2020) which also included poems in Welsh by Cyril Jones.
Open mic:
As usual, our guest readers will read in the first half, after which the floor will be opened to attendees for our popular open mic. Those not able to attend in person can watch the main readings right here via Facebook live.
In a change to our hybrid format, we will no longer be streaming the open mic. This is to preserve the open mic as a space where readers can road test new material prior to publication. We hope our online audience can understand why we have taken this decision.
Open mic readers can put their name down by the door on the night. Please stick to one A4 page of poetry or prose so that we have time to get though everyone.
Tickets
Tickets are £3 on the door. Please note entry is cash only.
Book Sales
Books by both authors will be available on the night but please note we can unfortunately only take CASH for Philip Gross's Bloodaxe titles. Apologies for any inconvenience.
This event is supported by the Literature Wales Inspiring Communities Fund.
