André Stitt, born in Belfast, currently lives in Wales following some time in London from 1980-1999. He is currently Professor of Performance & Interdisciplinary Art at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Chair of CFAR, a fellow of the Royal Society of Art and the Higher Education Academy. Stitt is one of the foremost practitioners of performance art in the UK. Stitt set up Trace, the only gallery in Britain devoted solely to time based art, in his living room in Cardiff in 2000. Trace hosts a regular programme focusing on contemporary fine art performance, video, installation and interactive, interdisciplinary activity. In the first five years of its existence, Trace produced forty installations/performances and presented thirty-six artists in external projects and exchanges. Trace has also initiated similar projects in other locations. Trace (2006) is also a lavishly illustrated book that documents the first five years of the Trace programme.
