FAQs

Q. Can I submit my book to Seren for publication?

Yes.  Please consult our Book Submissions HERE page for further information and submission guidelines.

Q. Can I submit illustrations and artwork for consideration?

Very few of our titles are illustrated but we’re always looking for cover images and designers. Please contact Simon Hicks on simonhicks [at] serenbooks [dot] com for more information on submitting artwork.

Q. How do I apply for a job or work experience at Seren?

Jobs at Seren arise infrequently but are always advertised on the website. Look under News for details of any vacancies. We offer week long or sometimes fortnightly work experience to young people looking to explore the possibilities of the publishing industry. If you are a university student, a graduate or have just completed your A levels please contact Mick Felton with a covering letter and your cv at mickfelton [at] serenbooks [dot] com. We also welcome overseas students under the Erasmus scheme.

Q. How can I contact a Seren author?

We cannot give out authors' contact details, including email addresses, but we will be happy to forward correspondence to them or to their agent. As we are not always in email contact with authors, we prefer that correspondence is put in writing and addressed to:

'Author'
c/o Seren Books
57 Nolton Street

Wales
CF31 3AE

To contact an author for a bookshop event, festival or interview, please contact our Marketing Officer, Victoria Humphreys. Email: victoriahumphreys [at] serenbooks [dot] com

Q. Is there anywhere on the website where I can download the new books catalogue from?

Seren will be producing a new catalogue in 2011 as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations. The PDF version will be available to download from this website.

Q. Does Seren publish ebooks and, if so, where can I buy them?

Seren will be launching an ebooks list in 2011 as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations. More information to follow but they should be available from all the sources you would expect, plus this website.

Q. How can I request a review copy of a particular book?

If you work in the media and would like to request a review copy please email our Marketing Officer, Victoria Humphreys, with details of the publication or organisation you represent. Email: victoriahumphreys [at] serenbooks [dot] com. Book covers and press releases are often available in our Media section: click HERE. If you have a blog and would like to write about one of our books please follow the ‘Got a Blog?’ link on our homepage.

Q. How can I request permission to use an extract from a Seren book?

Seren controls and asserts intellectual property rights for all poets it publishes according to © International Copyright Law (Berne Convention 1886; UCC, 1952; Geneva, 1996). This establishes the right of the author to be recognised as the creator of the work, prevents derogatory changes to the work, and supports their economic right to receive fair reward for use of that work by others.

Our standard minimum fee for use of a poem (1-10 lines), as set by The Society of Authors 2005 is £60, and this rises line by line, and also depending on the range of distribution territory. However, this is negotiable for low print runs, educational purposes and good causes.

For translation rights for individual poems, please contact: Mick Felton:  mickfelton [at] serenbooks [dot] com

Q. How can I find a book that is no longer in print?

The Seren website features all our titles currently in print. If you cannot find a book then it’s quite likely that it is no longer in print. In this case our advice would be to try some of the online retailers that specialise in hard-to-find books, such as Abebooks and The Book Depository.
